Lancair Looks to the Future with New Financial Strength, Management Team
Cites Future Growth, Enhanced Customer Service and Focus on Evolution Turboprop
Redmond OR; 7.1.10 – Mr. Gene Wolstenholme, the new majority owner and Chairman of LCTI/Lancair International, today announced the injection of new operating capital and a new management team at aircraft manufacturer Lancair International. “We are focused on the future,” said Wolstenholme, “We have a world-class product in our 320 knot, $1.2 million Evolution owner-built aircraft. With five aircraft flying, and 24 customer orders, we’re off to a great start and we are going to focus on pushing through this down-economy and getting our incredible airplane to market.”
In announcing the new ownership, Mr. Wolstenholme also announced new company leadership. Mr. Wolstenholme will be LCTI/Lancair International Chairman, and Robert Wolstenholme was named President & CEO of LCTI/Lancair International. “I have been associated with Lancair aircraft since 1990. Flying is, and has always been my passion and this new partnership is a chance to bring our proven management skills together with Lancair’s high performance products with a focus on customer satisfaction.”
Bob comes from an extensive background in manufacturing. Wolstenholme Machine located in Colmar, PA, specializes in precision parts for the medical, aerospace, and telecommunication industries. Subsidiary WMrobots designs and builds robots for bomb disposal and mine detectors for the US and Canadian markets. Bob built and flies his own award winning Lancair IVP. As President & CEO, Bob Wolstenholme will oversee all business & management functions of LCTI/Lancair International.
Tom Bowen, whose General Aviation management and engineering experience spans 3 decades, will continue to head company operations management and is the principal spokesman for the company. He said, “This is a real win for general aviation and Lancair customers. But it is an even a bigger win for Lancair employees, their families, and the communities of Redmond and Bend, Oregon. It is no secret that the Central Oregon area continues to suffer through double digit unemployment, and this once vibrant aerospace manufacturing center has also suffered with the failures of Epic and Columbia. I am determined to do everything I can to maintain Lancair as a world-class company and to grow it into the future as we continue to design, build and service premium aircraft."
Joe Bartels, CEO of LCTI/Lancair International, since 2003, resigned as President and CEO according to the terms of a June 7, 2010, investment agreement, and will remain a minority percentage owner of LCTI/Lancair International. “Joe did a great job overseeing development of the Evolution aircraft,” said Bob Wolstenholme, “and we now need to move ahead and expand the manufacturing infrastructure and training programs to support the Evolution product line.”

LANCAIR'S EVOLUTION AIRCRAFT COMPLETES A MAJOR TESTING PHASE with FLYING COLORS
Central Oregon Aircraft Manufacturer, Lancair International, successfully completed the long-term cycling of its pressure vessel
Lancair International Inc. of Redmond, Oregon, a manufacturer of high performance kit planes, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a lengthy series of pressurization tests of its new Evolution aircraft. The testing cycle surpassed by two-fold the aircraft's design requirement.
The Evolution pressure vessel, a fully conforming production unit, included the main cabin and cargo doors, firewall and aft bulkheads. The Evolution aircraft is designed with a 6 PSI differential which maintains an 8,500 foot cabin pressure at 28,000 feet.
The end result, reaching the 12 pounds per square inch differential, meets the certification standards of most categories of today's general aviation aircraft. Long term cycling involves placing abnormal stresses on the pressure vessel itself. The tests included cycling of the vessel by increasing and decreasing pressure, which over an extended period of time, acknowledged the structural integrity of the Evolution design.
Lancair International Inc, founded in 1984, is celebrating its 25th year selling the world's most successful high performance piston and turbine kit aircraft. They offer a selection of seven aircraft as
Fastbuild kits: The Lancair Legacy Fixed Gear, Lancair Legacy, Lancair ES, Lancair ES-P, Lancair IV, Lancair IV-P, and the Lancair Evolution. To date, the company has delivered over 2,000 kits. As testimony to their quality and design, Lancair aircraft have set a number of world speed records and have dominated the Sports Class at the Reno Air Races for several years. First Evolution Kit Delivered
Redmond, OR (July 21, 2008) Production of the new Lancair Evolution has reached a critical milestone, the delivery of the first kit to a customer. Andy Cruce of Miramar, Florida came to Lancair headquarters in Redmond, Oregon to begin work on his new plane and will be doing it in a new 6 thousand square foot build shop Lancair has leased near it main hangars specifically for handling the building of new Evolutions.
Cruce said he and his wife Nancy started looking at this probably 2 and half years ago and after a briefing from Lancair GM Timothy Ong about what the plane was going to be, she decided it was something we needed.
Cruce says he’s pleased to be working on it, and hopes to have the airplane ready to fly sometime around the first of the year.
Lancair has a full Evolution production schedule through February of 2009, and plans call for delivery of two new kits per month. Interest in the aircraft in the weeks leading up to AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 has been very high and the prototype Evolution which flew to Sun 'n Fun just weeks after it’s first flight, has recently been painted and has completed ground vibration testing.
Lancair International, Inc., founded in 1984, is celebrating its 24th year in business selling the world’s most successful high performance piston and turbine powered aircraft kits. Lancair, in addition to the Evolution, continues to produce the Lancair Legacy FG, Legacy RG, Lancair ES, Lancair ES-P, Lancair IV and Lancair IV-P. Lancair has produced and delivered over 2,000 kits since its inception and enjoys numerous world speed records from such events as the Reno Air Races. Designed to cruise at 385 mph, the turboprop-powered Evolution will also offer numerous safety features -- including an optional BRS ballistic parachute, AMSAFE energy absorbing seatbelts, energy absorbing seats, and now the Forward Vision EVS-100.
"Clearly, Lancair has made the addition of safety technology to a beautiful new aircraft a top priority," said Forward Vision CEO Patrick Farrell, "and we are very pleased to participate in this process and look forward to the improved safety and performance profiles offered by this company that continues to forge new paths for our collective aviation community."
The EVS-100 is billed as a low cost, non-cryogenically cooled Enhanced Vision System for the OEM and aftermarket. The company says it offers the latest generation Long Wave Infra Red (LWIR) sensor that is sunlight safe, and has excellent grey scale to discern detail.
Lancair’s First Evolution Kit Delivered
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Lancair International announced today that it has delivered the first Evolution kit to Andy Cruce of Miramar, Florida. Cruce and his wife saw the Evolution last year at Oshkosh and began contemplating the purchase. When we considered the speed, roominess, carrying capacity, BRS chute and docile flight characteristics of the Evolution, we decided the Evolution is what we need, Cruce is reported to have said.
Lancair says that Cruce came to Redmond, Oregon, to participate in the company’s two-week builder-assistance program. A 6000-square-foot facility was constructed at the headquarters specifically for Evolution builders. According to Lancair, Cruce says he plans to have the airplane flying by early 2009.
Lancair reports that it has a full Evolution production schedule booked through February 2009. The prototype that appeared at this year’s Sun ’n Fun is now painted and will be available for demo flights at Oshkosh.
The Evolution is a four-seat design powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6 turbine engine, making it capable of speeds in excess of 385 mph, according to Lancair. It also features numerous safety features including a ballistic chute, airbag seat belts and energy-absorbing seats.
Lancair lists the fastbuild kit price as $250,000, with a finished cost in the range of $650,000 to $1 million.
