As they say, life is what you make of it. So make it highly rewarding, for you as well as your family. With a Lancair ES or Super ES kitplane you can build the life of your dreams, traveling far and wide in a plane considered the finest of its kind to ever cross the sky. We have everything you need to make it happen.

These all-composite, four-seat, fixed gear models offer the ultimate in capability and comfort. The impressive, roomy interior makes cross-country journeys a joy for the whole family. In fact, a Lancair plane is a vacation cabin unto itself. It’s your second home in the sky.

The Lancair ES models blend outstanding design and performance with common-sense utility to create sophisticated, practical aircraft that are leading the way into the 21st century. The ES and Super ES are about power, payload, versatility and value. On first glance, you’ll know that you are looking at an aircraft ahead of its time.

Derived from the award-winning, world record setting Lancair IV, the ES and Super ES are the result of nearly 10 years of research, innovation and pilot input. These visionary, four-place aircraft have it all; high climb rate, long endurance, slow landing speed, premium comfort, all packaged in a very elegant, streamlined design. They can haul a load with speed that is unmatched (200-225 mph) for a simple, fixed gear aircraft. What’s more, they are as easy to assemble as they are to fly.

Wing Design
At Lancair, we’re constantly exploring new ways to improve flight. The forward-thinking, aerodynamic designs we’ve developed meet the highest expectations and in many ways surpass traditional aircraft quality. When it comes to aviation, our designers have definitely earned their wings.

Based on analysis and testing, we determined that the custom airfoil sections used in our high performance Lancair IV were ideally suited to our ES models. This carefully tuned wing structure features a high laminar flow design which enhances cruise speed, control and lift. With preferred cruising of 7,000 to 12,000 feet, an aspect ratio of 8.4:1 was selected.

In addition, large, easy-to-operate, full slotted electrical flaps make the transition from high cruise speed to low pattern speed easy. The nearly 19 feet of effective flap span, combined with the high-lift, slotted flap design, ensures exceptional slow-end handling, With a low stall speed of 65mph, pattern work is a breeze.

Pilots who have flown it agree, our ES exceeds all expectations, with lower stall speed, better roll rate, improved low speed handling and higher top speeds. Naturally, the ability to handle slower approaches and shorter landing distances means added safety for you and your family. You can relax and fly with confidence-whatever the conditions.

Increased Cabin Comfort
When we looked at the cabin design of other four-seat airplanes, we decided there was room for improvement. And more room is what you get. The comfy ES interior is a spacious 46 inches across and 48 inches in height. Along with more shoulder and head space, passengers enjoy outstanding visibility through large windows and the wrap-around windshield. Space is also maximized in the ample baggage area, where you can carry all the gear you need for a lengthy trip. In short, it’s long on cargo space.

Frankly, there’s only one thing the ES is short on: noise. An inflatable door seal keeps the cabin shielded from whistling wind and engine noise. Also, a custom sound-proofing package, developed exclusively for Lancairs, is available to make the cabin even quieter. Passengers can sleep soundly or sit up and enjoy the view.

Fastest in the Air
Just because we offer more cabin space doesn’t mean we take a back seat in speed. On the contrary, you can cruise smoothly at 225 mph in the Super ES which features a 310-hp Continental 1O-550 engine. The ES can easily reach 200 mph with its 210-hp Continental 1O-360 engine. Our climb rate (up to 2000 fpm) and takeoff distance (600 ft.) earns Lancair high marks for power and performance. Plus, fuel consumption is 10-15% less than other similarly powered engines, thanks to the finely tuned induction system.

"The Fastbuild door option offers a completely finished door with all hinges, latches, gas strut, pneumatic door seal, lock and window installed. This option saves our builders over 200 hours."

Design
As you’ll discover, superior craftsmanship is evident everywhere in these planes – from kit assembly to flight ability. In addition to exceptional engineering and design, Lancair utilizes core materials and components that are the finest in the world. Quality, simplicity and innovation are the hallmarks of all Lancair kitplanes.
Detachable wing panels are just one example of our forward-thinking design. You can remove the wings while the aircraft remains on its landing gear, then trailer your plane to an airport or to the paint shop. Our designs are constantly evolving with the input and insight of advanced aviation experts. We work closely with the engineers at Teledyne Continental Motors and Textron Lycoming, Hartzell and MT-Propellers to refine the power plant installation and perfect the union of engine and propeller to the airframe. Our dedication to quality is why our reputation continues to soar.

Fuel System
With the Super ES at 55% power, fuel consumption is approximately 11 gph, which equates to 6 hours of flight with an hour reserve at 170 mph. Distance? In excess of 1,000 miles – with a maximum range of 1,450.

Fuel is carried in tanks, on the left and right, integrated within the wing bays. A standard supply of 95 gallons is offered. As a safety feature, each tank incorporates a "slosh bay" to prevent unporting of the fuel pickup during uncoordinated maneuvers. The fuel valve also returns vapor to the same fuel tank that is in use, which simplifies management.

Advanced Landing Gear
Fixed gear is the secure way to go for safety as well as easy assembly, low maintenance and optimal utilization. Our gear systems are rugged and long-lasting. The main gear legs are tubular 4340 steel, gun-drilled, honed, tapered, heat-treated and plated for rust protection. The Cleveland 600 x 6 wheels come standard with heavy-duty breaks. The nose gear features a custom-built premium air/oleo strut for maximum dampening. The result? Landings are trouble free and enviably smooth. The differential braking system allows for tight turns and the rudder provides ground steering at speeds as low as 20 mph.

Materials
You can’t beat a Lancair airframe – literally. Our tested, epoxy based composites are among the strongest, stiffest, lightest materials known. These supreme composites permit compound aerodynamic shaping without drag-producing rivets, bumps and lap joints. The components are cured under vacuum pressure at 270&Mac176;F and represent true, state-of-the-art technology for today’s general aviation aircraft.

Corrosion resistant and virtually non-flammable, our advanced airframes extend the lifetime utilization of your aircraft. It’s also true they will easily outlive any aluminum airframe when properly maintained. The use of premium materials does more than enhance your flight experience – it also increases the longevity and value of your investment.

Testing
With the belief that an aircraft is only as strong as its weakest link, we rigorously test all components. As our engineers will freely admit, they are obsessed with constant improvement. No detail or part is overlooked. For example, in addition to computer analysis, a full flutter test program is conducted on our aircraft components.

More evidence: in an environmental testing lab, we simulate extreme natural conditions that our aircraft materials might be exposed to. Samples are tested at room temperature and in extreme "hot/wet" conditions. This is when the incredible strength and stiffness of our fiberglass and carbon fiber materials becomes apparent. Finally, to accurately confirm material and engineering data, a complete static load testing program is conducted for the wing and other specific load bearing areas.

Such meticulous testing, coupled with our inspection and flight test programs has helped us achieve an impeccable safety record, not to mention a reputation for producing one of the best engineered aircraft in the skies. Indeed, Lancair is setting high standard for the entire aviation industry. Our mission is to continually enhance safety, quality and performance.

Ask any Lancair owner and they will tell you that building a Lancair plane is almost enjoyable as flying one. The learning curve is surprisingly shallow. Our Fastbuild kits are designed with simplicity in mind, just like our aircraft. Our customers consistently give us high marks for our written instructions and ease of assembly. In addition, our accessories catalog service through Kit Components Inc., Lancair Avionics Inc. and thorough customer support programs provide you with everything you need, and more, to prepare for takeoff. One you’re airborne, your pride of ownership will soar.

Fastbuild Kit and Preassembly
You’ll be happy to learn that the hard work has already been done for you. Which means you’ll be assembling your family for a flight faster than you think.

Lancair airframe system components are pre-built, ready for assembly. There’s no welding, no machining, no contour forming (and no knuckle-scraping). Our Fastbuild kits include premolded surfaces using our premium, high-temperature epoxy-based prepregs.

Most of the major assemblies come complete, including the wing with ribs, spar and hardpoints for control surfaces installed. The main gear is attached to the fuselage and the firewall and engine mount are installed with the nose gear attached. Plus, the tail surfaces come with equal amounts of completion, even the rudder hardware is installed.

With the Fastbuild "A" kit option, virtually all of the inner wing and horizontal tail structure is installed for you. With our Fastbuild "B" kit option, major fuselage subassemblies are preinstalled, including firewall, engine mount supports, bulkheads, landing gear and tail alignment saddles.

Free Technical Assistance
When you join the Lancair family, you receive unlimited, free technical assistance, five days a week, eight hours a day – for life. Our expert staff is ready to advise you on all aspects of your assembly and final systems installations, from spinner to tail. We can also help you with optional installations such as autopilots, new avionics and system accessories. Count on us for complete support. We won’t leave you up in the air.

Engines
Every aircraft is developed around an engine of choice. For the Lancair Super ES that engine is the Continental IO-550. For takeoff, you’ll experience the spectacular accelerations and climb performance. This normally aspirated engine develops 310 hp at sea level. Thanks to their cross flow-tuned induction, these engine tend to run smoother and consume about 15% less fuel when compared to other engines. As an option, we also support Continental 1O-360ES installations. This is a 210 hp engine that will burn an average of 9.5 gph, giving you a range well over 1800 sm with the additional fuel option.

Engine / Firewall Fastbuild Options
As a further service to our customers and to enhance the safety and longevity of your engine installation, we pioneered another industry first for the Lancair ES and Super ES. We will Fastbuild your engine for you. We do this in our facility by installing your engines to the mount and adding all baffling, fittings, lines, ect. to completely plumb your engine. We can also install all the firewall-mounted items needed for your engine installation, onto your firewall before your fuselage kit leaves our facility. With these two options, you will be able to install your engine in less than a day! And, you’ll again rest assured knowing that everything is installed properly.

Lancair Avionics
We understand how important avionics and related systems are to the control, handling safety and utility of your Lancair. So important, in fact, that we created a whole new company that is dedicated solely to the avionic systems of your Lancair.

Through years of research and testing, Lancair experts rely on advanced avionics that are superior in quality and compatibility. Customers receive very competitive prices on virtually all avionics and cockpit systems. What’s more, your modular Lancair instrument panel is custom painted to your specifications, complete with professional labeling. Finally, each panel is thoroughly bench tested and "burned in" for a minimum of thirty hours to ensure a fast, trouble-free installation.

Decide on one of our new FASTBuild Instrument Panels, couple it to a FASTBuild Aircraft Harness and you’ll significantly reduce your build time and be in the air even faster! We take the guess work out of selecting the best avionics, components, design and aircraft wiring available for your aircraft. You install your harness, hook up your systems, plug in the panel and away you go. Performance is the name of the game! With our goal of "plug and play," most airframe attachments, including nearly all "through firewall" connections, are simply a cannon plug hookup.

Inside and out, we are confident that you will agree, Lancair aircraft are simply the best.
